Celebrate! Laxness in Translation

Our friend and collaborator, the esteemed Professor Batty (aka Stephen Cowdery) has a new project. He has done himself proud. His new website celebrates (good choice of words) the life and work of Icelandic author Halldór Laxness. The revolution is at hand!

Laxness in Translation

It's wonderful! I would like to thank you and the professor for guidance in my Laxness readings. The ones I haven't read are either hard to find, expensive, or both, but the quest will continue. The consolidation of LIT is a great tool for me and other seekers.

It's so good to hear from you, Jon. It is also nice to know that there is someone who shares my jealously of the Professor, and his own, personal copies of not only Salka Valka, but also Happy Warriors, both in English! Hard as it is to admit, he deserves them. Maybe you and I will get lucky one day ;-) Are there any other titles you are trying to get, that I should watch out for?

Quire of Seven and The Honour of the House are on the list, as well. I usually check Amazon regularly, but need to look a bit harder.

Jon~ There is a copy of The Happy Warriors at Bemidji State, available as an inter-library loan. The lowest I've seen Salka is around $80. Quire used to be cheap at Amazon, now the only copy is $30.
ABE books has a copy of Honour for $40:

Jon and Rose ~ If you can wait a few years there will be a new, vastly improved translation by Philip Roughton, February, 2014:

I'm on the look-out for these 4 titles as well, (for a certain "berserker" of my acquaintance...)
