The Problem with Chickens, by Bruce McMillan. Illustrated by Gunnella. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 2005. 32 pgs.
A children's picture book that combines an appealing, humorous story with bright, folk art illustrations. McMillan's story is about ladies from an Iceland village who are frustrated because they cannot reach the wild bird eggs that are located on the sides of cliffs. So they decide to raise chickens instead. But the chickens don't want to be chickens...they want to be just like the ladies! The naughty chickens insist on going to birthday parties, drinking tea...in short, they are too busy to lay eggs! Can the ladies outsmart them?

Oooh, CHILDREN'S literature about Iceland! I never really thought to look further than Norse Myths and troll stories. I will have to see if our library has this one! Thanks for the review!!!
